Born on October 25, 1825 in Vienna, the composer Johann Strauss - the "King of the Waltz" - was court director from 1863 to 1870 in the Austrian capital. His waltzes are famous for their melodic variety of ideas (including "At the beautiful blue Danube", "G'schichten aus dem Wiener Wald", "Kaiserwalzer", "Wiener Blut"). Strauss also distinguished himself as a successful composer of numerous marches and polkas as well as unforgettable operettas (such as The Bat, One Night in Venice, The Gypsy Baron). Due to his wedding with Adele Deutsch, Johann Strauß became a citizen of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He remained Coburg citizens until his death on June 3, 1899 in Vienna.
