On February 23, 1955, the 100th anniversary of the death of the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss. Carl Friedrich Gauss was born on April 30, 1777 in Braunschweig. He was one of the most important mathematicians. He has been groundbreaking in many fields of mathematics (number theory, algebra, calculus, theory of elliptic functions, error calculation, and others). He also studied earth magnetism and the theory of electromagnetism. He was also involved in the invention of the electric telegraph. As an astronomer, he was director of the observatory in Göttingen since 1807, where he died on February 23, 1855.
