Hansen was born on July 13, 1913 in Copenhagen. Deep impression left a stay in Greece, where he was called by his brother, who invited him to help with the construction of the University in Athens. There he dealt with the architecture of antiquity, the basis of historicism, and got to know the Byzantine architecture. These two influences are also the basis of the work of the famous architect. In 1846 he came to Vienna, where he worked together with other architects on the construction of the Vienna Arsenal (1849-1856). Until his death on 17 February 1891, architectural monuments of historicism such as the Parliament, the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and the Vienna Stock Exchange were created under his leadership.
