The city of Steyr celebrated in 1980 the 1000-year celebration of the first name by name of Styraburg. This falls in the time of Bishop Pilgrims of Passau (971-991). The Styraburg was residence and seat of government Otakare, the Margrave and later Dukes of Styria. After the relocation of the residence and after the extinction of Otakare in 1192, the Styraburg lost importance. The Babenberger and Habsburgs as property successors on the Styraburg managed castle and rule of burgraves and keepers. In 1666, Johann Maximilian von Lamberg acquired the castle and the estate as his property. A big fire in 1727 led the owners to replace the castle with a representative castle. The Linz master builder Johann Michael Prunner provided the plans for this construction. With this transformation, the Styraburg became today's Schloss Lamberg. The 1000-year celebration with its many events and initiatives became a landmark in Steyr's city history. The stamp shows a view of the city after a copper engraving from the year 1693.
