On 2 July 1900, the first Zeppelin airship, LZ 1, rose above Lake Constance. Just five years earlier, Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin had patented his »Steerable draft«. The end of the First World War seemed at first to be the end of the air giants, the remaining airships were yet to deliver to the victorious powers. But the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH did not give up and finally celebrated with LZ 127 "Graf Zeppelin" triumphant successes in the 1929 World Tour, the Arctic trip in 1931 and the subsequent scheduled intercontinental air traffic. Also LZ 129 "Hindenburg" completed successful rides until the airship on May 7, 1937 burned in Lakehurst. Today the Zeppelin era is experiencing a renaissance with the new Zeppelin NT LZ N07.
