The Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge is the iron landmark of the city of Wilhelmshaven and attraction for tourists and visitors. When ships with tall masts and superstructures enter the harbor, the swing bridge with its swing-out lane is opened, thus enabling even large ships to pass through. Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists wait at the barrier in this impressive spectacle, until the bridge is passable again. The Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge was put into operation on 4 September 1907. After the birthday celebrations in 2007, the technical monument will be extensively renovated.
