The present special stamp, which appears on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Austrian football club "Austria Wien", shows in its attractively designed motif next to the club emblem portrait photos of the four honorary captains Luigi Hussak, Walter Nausch, Ernst Fiala and Herbert Prohaska. The "Violets", as the Austria is lovingly named after their club colors, have been based in Vienna-Favoriten since 1973, but the beginnings of the club certainly go back to 1911, when the former players of the "Vienna Cricket and Football Club" the "Wiener Amateur-Sportverein" was founded. Austria has been named after the professionalization of its gaming operations since November 18, 1926. As a 23-time Austrian champion and 27-time ÖFB Cup winner, FK Austria Wien is undoubtedly one of the most successful local football clubs. The biggest international triumphs are the victories in the "Mitropa Cup" in the thirties, reaching the finals in the European cup Cupsieger 1978 and the two semi-finals in the European Cup of Champions in 1979 and the European cup Cupsieger 1983. After difficult times during the Second World War and changeful years after it began only under the unforgettable Joschi Walter a slow rebuilding of the club. The upswing of the 1970s is undoubtedly linked to the breakthrough of the young talents Herbert Prohaska, Erich Obermayer and Felix Gasselich. After the Cup victory in 1974 could be defeated in the season 1975/76 hitherto dominant club "SSW Innsbruck" surprising in the championship. After the club fell back after Innsbruck again the following year, but on the other hand again won the Cup, the course was set new. A sponsoring agreement was concluded with Austria Tabakwerke, which secured the economic basis of the association in the longer term. After a recent sporting "sagging", which made the "sell-out of the stars" in the nineties the standard word, in 1999 with Magna under the multinational Frank Tronach of the Canadian multimillionaire the financial situation was literally put on "new legs". In the season 2002/03, with the first championship title in ten years and the Cup victory of long-awaited success again. The "FK Austria Wien AG" exists since 1 July 2008, the club name was changed back to "FK Austria Vienna" after many internal riots and the final exit Stronachs. Last season, the "Violets" played again in the qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League - and they were, just one point behind Red Bull Salzburg, Austrian runner-up. Numerous famous football personalities such as Ernst Ocwirk, Matthias Sindelar, Ernst Nemec, Robert Sara, Franz Wohlfahrt, Toni Polster and the above-mentioned honorary captains wore the traditional violet dress during their glamorous sports career.
