Oberndorf was often the victim of devastating floods. Already from 1316 is handed down that a bridge was torn away. The damage was made even more by flotsam, which stuck to the old wooden bridges with their many pillars and dammed up the water. In addition, the bridges were washed away many times. As in the last decade of the 19th century four times the flood caused enormous damage, they decided to re-invest Oberndorf on a raised position. In Bavarian Laufen and in Oberndorf, Austria, there was a desire for a "stable bridge of stone and iron" with a larger span. The proximity of the bridge to the town square in Laufen and the new town center in Oberndorf fortunately led to the decision for a bridge project of high aesthetic value. A 2-pillar solution resulted in 3 openings, which was larger on the Austrian side for the boat. The construction of 648 t Martin river iron consists of a chain-like curved top chord and a straight bottom chord. For the lining of the pillar stand and the decoration parts, a further 67 t of material were very attractively installed. The eagles with open wings placed on the bridge portals give the building the impression of being elegantly light. On the 2.6.1903 the bridge was opened with a common festival of the population from Laufen and Oberndorf. The stamp is a joint issue with Germany.
