The Vienna University of Economics and Business was founded on 1.10.1898 in the former Palais Festetics as "K.K. Exportakademie"; In 1919, the transformation into the state "university for world trade" took place. In the course of the university reorganization in 1975, the "University of World Trade" was renamed "Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration". Due to the rapid increase in student numbers, the now WU moved to a new building above the freight station of Vienna's Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, into the university center Althanstraße, which today is populated by around 25,000 people. Currently, more than 20 business specialization options and a wide range of complementary elective courses are offered. In addition to the four fields of study (Business Administration, Commercial Science, Business Education, Economics), a number of university courses have been set up. WU, with its wide range of economics subjects and the international orientation of research and teaching, is one of the leading economics universities in Europe.
