The opening of the Pöstlingbergbahn took place on 29 May 1898. The track has a track width of 1000 mm and a track length of 2.9 km. From the starting point in Linz-Urfahr to the station on the mountain (519 m), 255 meters in altitude are overcome. Originally, the railway service was only intended for the summer months, but already in the first year of operation was found that there is also a need for rail transport on the mountain in winter. The fleet of the Pöstlingbergbahn, probably Europe's steepest adhesion railway, consists of 10 closed and 3 open railcars. The Pöstlingberg with its railway is the landmark of the state capital Linz and one of the most important tourist destinations in Upper Austria.
