The "Kaiser-Jubiläums-Stadttheater", today's Volksoper, was opened on December 14, 1898 under the management of Adam Müller-Guttenbrunn with the "Hermannschlacht" by Heinrich von Kleist. After a very changeable and not always conflict-free history of the house, the Volksoper - now in the Association of the Bundestheater - finally under the direction of Franz Salmhofer, later under Karl Dönch and the famous baritone Eberhart Wächter a world-renowned stage and is now an extremely valued nursing home for opera, operetta and musical.
