Like almost all "snow mountains" in Europe, the Schneeberg in Lower Austria owes its name simply to the fact that it wears a snow cover the longest of the year. This already marks him as the highest in the country since time immemorial, even though he is of course far behind among all the mountains of Austria, when it only depends on the height. But only 60 kilometers from the top of St. Stephen's Cathedral in the middle of Vienna to the two peaks of the Schneeberg (Kaiserstein and Klosterwappen). The mountain has therefore become a dear friend of the Viennese, who experience it on clear days from many places in the city close enough to touch. The Schneeberg also makes it easy for visitors. He owns a small cogwheel railway, now 100 years old, which has remained a curious marvel in the age of electronically controlled cable cars. The miniature train covers more than 1,200 vertical meters over a distance of only 9 kilometers and carries its passengers safely and gently up the mountain. Every visitor to Vienna is definitely recommended for a day trip to Puchberg am Schneeberg and a ride on the cog railway! Even the sight of the 100-year-old veteran steam locomotive will not only delight the heart of railway enthusiasts. The journey itself takes the traveler abruptly back to the time of the Danube monarchy and embraces it with an irresistible charm. The brand image shows a train of the Schneebergbahn.
