On 15 October 1888, the construction of the Achenseebahn was begun and already on June 4, 1889, the completion was celebrated. Since her commissioning she had been in constant financial trouble. Already in the first year of operation, therefore, negotiations were started for the takeover of the Achenseebahn by the former Southern Railway Company. The First World War and the economic difficulties of the twenties were low points in the economy of the railway. A bright spot arose with the construction of the Achensee power plant. The transport of the necessary building materials supported the railway during this time and after the completion of the power plant it was not until World War II that a comparable upswing occurred. First through the holiday activities of the KDF, which preferred the Achensee area as a recreational area and later as a feeder for the population of Achensee area, which has been greatly increased by many refugees. In the 50s and 60s, the railway came back into a crisis, but in the following decades a positive development could be achieved through joint efforts of the Achensee communities Mauerbach / Eben and Achenkirchen. Thus, the number of passengers from 1962 with 44000 to 93000 in 1988 developed.
