With the issue of the concession certificate on March 22, 1888, the corporation of the "Wiener Lokalbahnen" was established as a separate company. The beginnings of today's "Badner Bahn" go back to the year 1873. At that time, a single-track, 3-kilometer, standard-gauge horse tram on the Leesdorf-Baden-Südbahnhof-Rauhenstein line started operation with newly constructed two-carriage wagons. The conversion to electrical operation took place in 1894. Starting from this first line, the WBL was able to significantly expand its route network until the turn of the century. After a turbulent history in the course of the events of our century, which led to enormous difficulties, especially after the Second World War, the Wiener Lokalbahnen were able to adapt their capacities to modern traffic engineering requirements in the course of reconstruction. This included the delivery of the first series 100 eight-axle railcar on the special postage stamp in 1979, marking the beginning of a new epoch in the history of the Badner Bahn. The most important event for the company in 1981 was the final extension of the railway concession until 1998.
