On January 12, 1883, the "k.k. Postsparcassen-Amt" opened its doors in the rooms of the Dominican monastery in Vienna for the first time. By the end of 1884, the Post Office Savings Bank had already gained 430,000 depositors. The rapid upswing soon demanded larger premises and so the Postsparkasse moved in 1885 into the adapted rooms of the old university in Postgasse in Vienna. From 1904 to 1912 the present building of the Postsparkasse was built, which was built by Otto Wagner and can also be seen on the present brand image. During the First World War and the subsequent economic crisis, the Postal Savings Bank had to live through difficult times. With the occupation of Austria in 1938, she was incorporated into the German Reichspost. After the end of the Second World War, the institute resumed its service on April 26, 1945 as the Austrian Postal Savings Bank Office. With the Postsparkassengesetz 1969, which came into force on 1 January 1970, the conversion into a public institution with legal personality took place. This reorganization of the Postsparkasse laid the economic foundations for a successful future of the company.
