The Vienna Trabrennverein was founded in 1873, in the World's Fair Year. Five years after its founding, the Krieauer trotting track was inaugurated, whose events soon enjoyed great popularity. 1890 began with the trotting. The trotting races had to form the basis for the breed, the ultimate purpose of which was to breed a suitable utility horse. In 1894, for example, a breeding center was established in Kagran. The great boom was followed by the economic crisis at the turn of the century and the two world wars. But already in June 1945, the Trabrennverein was re-launched and rebuilt the completely destroyed facilities. Search commissions brought together the outsourced in alternate quarters horses. Already half a year later, the launching bell sounded in the Krieau, and the masses flocked again to "their" horse race. In addition to the development of high-quality trotting breeding in the following decades, the focus was on the expansion and modernization of the racetrack facilities, which are now among the most modern in Europe. In 1972, more than 22 million schillings were distributed at race prices, the Austrian trotting racers won in the major international competitions just about everything there was to win.
