The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences was founded on 15 October 1872 under Emperor Franz Joseph I. Initially, students and professors were housed in rental buildings, especially in the 8th district, until on 9 December 1896, the new university building at the Türkenschanzpark was opened. The present brand motif shows the four-part coat of arms of the university, which was created on the occasion of the centenary. It was created by Karl Geßner, a graphic designer of Staatsdruckerei. On the brand, the different fields of study are clearly symbolized: Three ears of wheat on a brown background as a symbol of agriculture; two firs on green background for forestry; Clouds and water in blue for the culture technique and a tripod with stills on a red background as a symbol of the fermentation technology and food technology. In the middle of the coat of arms you can see an open book with the inscription RES NAT TECHN as a symbol of erudition.
