The Wiener Eislaufverein (WEV) celebrated the 100th anniversary of his birthday in 1967. That does not mean, however, that ice cream started to run in Vienna only 100 years ago. On the contrary, the grinding on the ice was already a popular amusement under Empress Maria Theresa. However, outside of these noble circles ice skating was forbidden in public areas. Since, however, from the officers to the judges all did, in the middle of the last century the skating on the city park ponds and in the Belvedere was tolerated by the police. In those days, an ice-skating woman could still become a talk of the town, and in addition to wearing trousers, how improper but comfortable. On February 7, 1867, the WEV was finally founded by honorable gentlemen, many of them blue-blooded. There are many clubs in the world who pay homage to ice sports. However, no other skating club has produced so many world champions, European champions and Olympic champions as the Wiener Eislaufverein. The history of Austrian ice sports proudly registers the achievement of 31 world championship titles, 44 European championships and 5 Olympic medals. The brand image shows a skater in fashion as worn in the middle of the last century.
