The conclusion of this special stamp series is the five-schilling value, which shows a detail from the colossal painting "The Triumph of Ariadne" by Hans Makart, namely the figures of the Thyrsos swinging lovers Ariadne and Dionysus. The artist painted this great picture in the World's Fair Year 1873, which also brought the Viennese the big stock market crash on "Black Friday" and the Cholera Passage. The picture was originally intended as a stage curtain for the Viennese comic opera. With this series of artists, the Austrian Post and Telegraph Administration continued their tradition of using exquisite, graphic cabaret works as brand motifs in order to duly record significant events at home and abroad through this advertising medium.
