Whether on the rail, the road or the water - the company "Stern & Hafferl" based in Gmunden moves people. The successful family business combines the areas of tram, rail, bus, shipping and freight transport and thus covers all areas of public passenger and freight transport. As Austria's largest private transport company, whose beginnings date back to 1883 to the founding engineers Josef Stern and Franz Hafferl, the company currently employs about 300 people. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Attersee-Schifffahrt and Attergaubahn, this special stamp block shows in its two motifs the flagship of Stern & Hafferl, designed in the style of Gustav Klimt, the 36 meter long electric ship MS "Stadt Vöcklabruck" On the other hand, a train set of the Attergaubahn with the electric locomotive ET 20104th To the story: It was the year 1913, when Stern & Hafferl founded its own electric shipping company, acquired its first two boats and took up the same summer driving. While the one ship kept the name "Attergau" until its retirement, the second bore several names over the years. Initially known as the "Baron Handel", from 1920 it was only called "trade" because of the abolition of the titles of nobility. After the annexation of Austria to the Third Reich, it was renamed "Heimatgau", after the war ended in 1945, it changed its name again and was from then until his retirement "Burgau". Originally, the operation was year-round and led as a liner shipping not only people, but also had to carry out the mailing; the journey from chamber a. A. to Unterach took more than two hours. With the abandonment of the postal service in 1964, the transition from means of transport to tourism enterprises gradually took place. The Attergaubahn, which today operates between the towns of Attersee and Vöcklamarkt on the western railway line Vienna - Linz - Salzburg, was opened on 14 January 1913. From the original length (15.3 km) are currently still 13.4 km traveled. As the route connects the ÖBB-Westbahn with the Attersee, it has great importance for tourism in the region. In recent years, there has even been an increase in commuters on the move - this positive increase, of course, can be attributed to several new settlements near the line. By the way: In 2011, Stern & Hafferl set another milestone in its more than 125-year company history and put the first solar ship of Austria on Lake Altaussee into operation.
