No special First Day Cover Special cancellation from September 20 to November 19, 1983 State Palaces and Gardens, Potsdam-Sanssouci 50-pfennig value: Marstall / Filmmuseum The Potsdam City Palace in the second half of the 17th Century was a pleasure garden between the Havel and the Potsdam the orange house built in 1685. In 1714, Friedrich Wilhelm I converted part of the pleasure garden into a parade ground, and the orange house became a stable for the royal riding horses. Under Frederick II Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff 1744 began with the expansion and reconstruction of the city palace and brought it from 1746 and the Marstall by extension in its present form with the magnificent south facade of three times nine-axis and two triaxial risolites, with colossal Horse groups were decorated by Friedrich Christian Glume. After changing uses and changes of the bombing of 14 April 1945 severely damaged stables was restored from 1977 to 1980 in the created by Knobelsdorff form of exterior building with Glumes sculptures and expanded inside with showrooms and cinema. In the following years the film museum of the GDR was opened in February 1983.
