The International Association for Constructive Philately will be holding its 8th congress from June 8 to 10, 1957, on the grounds of the »Federal Horticultural Show Cologne«, and at the same time holding a stamp exhibition under the motto »Flora and Philatelie«. The German Federal Post Office issued a special postage stamp for this occasion. The invited artists were given the task to seek a solution that illustrates the two terms of the exhibition motto. A proposal has been made by the Cologne graphic artist Anton Wolff, eight by Ernst Göhlert and Prof. Walter Brudi, and eight by Fritz and Dorothea Fischer-Nosbisch. The choice fell clearly on the work of Ernst Göhlert, who combines the Posthorn in a well-balanced form with a tulip and the coat of arms of the city of Cologne, the three crowns. The stamp was made by the Bundesdruckerei in Berlin in monochrome intaglio printing in yellowish red color. By partial rastering a two-color effect (red and yellow) was achieved.
