A largely preserved medieval old town with many nooked alleys, towers and small squares, which are surrounded by lovingly renovated half-timbered houses - because of this charm, the small Middle Franconian town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is world famous. On the Plönlein, the "flat place", offers one of the most beautiful scenes. From the famous street fork, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Kobolzeller Tor and the higher Sieberstor whose towers tower over the other historic buildings. Rothenburg turned into a city at the end of the 12th century and Rothenburg became an important center of power among the Hohenstaufen. From the 15th century, however, the influence fell sharply, which is why the urban development stagnated with some exceptions. Even after several wars, the old buildings of Rothenburg are still in a rare good condition. Meanwhile, the cultural city is one of the highlights of the popular "Romantic Road", the oldest holiday road in Germany.
