The Brenner motorway starts at Amras on the southern outskirts of Innsbruck and ends at the Brennersee. The whole project with its many bridges, tunnels and roads is remarkable. Already in 1959 construction began. The heart of this first section is the 820-meter-long Europabrücke pictured on the special postage stamp. When planning the Brenner motorway, not only did the landscape remain as untouched as possible, but special attention was also paid to tree protection. For example, the so-called "mushroom bridge" was built with a formwork car that was about the size of a tennis court, pushed forward in time with the clockwork and left behind the concreted bridge. Due to this system, no scaffolding was needed and therefore no tree was felled. The Nößlach Bridge was also built without expensive scaffolding, only with the help of a cable crane, so to speak "from the air".
