Old clocks from the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Grünes Gewölbe In the princely Kunstkammer of the Renaissance astronomical pendulum clocks were used as highly protected, novel scientific instruments. Many bear dials on all sides, which unite large areas of the calendar system, the timing and the position of the stars, thus providing information of extraordinary importance at that time. The shape of these watches and the versatility of their functions was determined by the discovery of the spring train as a driving force. Previously, there were only weight watches that were difficult to transport and high postaments or walls needed. These new, arbitrarily deployable devices were therefore called Stutz- or table clocks. Southern Germany, especially Augsburg was a leader in the production of such scientific instruments. In the Baroque period splendid gem-set casings transformed the character of the clock into treasures; the work of the goldsmiths dominated. 20 Pfennig value: Stutzuhr Because of the group on the housing called "Hubertusuhr", gold, gilded silver, gems, enamel, the work of JG Graupner, Dresden, after 1716, the case of JH Köhler, Dresden, after 1720, height : 36 cm.
