Old Clocks The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multicolored special postage stamps with pictures of old clocks. Precious art clocks from the State Mathematical-Physical Salon Dresden Among the world-famous holdings of the State Mathematical-Physical Salon in the Dresden Zwinger is u.a. The well-known collection of watches with their precious handcrafted and fine mechanical exhibits from the history and development of chronometry. Among them are magnificent pomp and automaton clocks of the 16th to 18th centuries as unique masterpieces of early watchmaking. On the 15-pfennig mark is the almost one-meter-high, center-piece automatic clock "Verkehrte Welt" produced by Hans Schlottheim around 1600, in which the multi-part automaton group in the middle part of the art clock dominates the lower movement and dial arrangement. Hunting groups revolve around a bronze-worked, chiselled and costumed monkey, who accompanies the movement functions and the movement of the clock with head turning, rolling eyes and beating the drum.
