Invincible Vietnam Special Postage Stamp Issue 1970 In support of the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues another multicolored postage stamp with surcharge. The proceeds from the sale of the surcharge mark will be donated to the Vietnam Committee of the Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee of the German Democratic Republic. Ho Chi Minh Ho Chi Minh was born on May 19, 1890, in Kim Lien, in central Vietnam to this special postage stamp. When his family was sentenced to life imprisonment for participating in the Freedom Movement, he went to Europe as a ship's boy. He worked in Britain and France, met Charles Longuet, the nephew of Karl Marx, and wrote for his newspaper Le Populaire. After the First World War he presented during the negotiations in Versailles the independence requirement for Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh participated in the founding of the French Communist Party in 1920. After he was expelled from France in 1923, his way across the Soviet Union led to China. From 1924 to 1929 he was revolutionary in southern China and Thailand. In 1930 he was one of the co-founders of the Communist Party of Indochina. Later, he was chairman of Viet-Minh, created in 1941, the anti-colonial liberation front of all the progressive parties and mass organizations of Vietnam, the present-day Fatherland Front. After the victorious revolution of 25 August 1945, Ho Chi Minh headed the provisional government; since 1946 he was its president. In 1946 he became chairman of the Lao-Dong, the Workers' Party of Vietnam. He led the liberation struggle of his people against the French colonialists and against the aggression of the United States. On September 3, 1969, this outstanding Vietnamese statesman and worker leader died.
