Dr. Kurt Waldheim was born on December 21, 1918 in St. Andrä-Wördern (Lower Austria) in modest circumstances. After an interruption during the war, he graduated in law in 1945 and was subsequently accepted into the service of the Austrian Foreign Ministry. After the signing of the State Treaty on May 15, 1955, he was appointed a permanent observer at the United Nations. As a result, the UN was to become one of the most important stages of his career. 1968 appointed to Dr. med. Josef Klaus as Foreign Minister in the Austrian Federal Government and only three years later, he appears in the presidential elections in 1971 against Franz Jonas as a candidate of the ÖVP. He defeated Jonas and returned to the UN, where he was elected Secretary General of this World Organization on 21 December 1971, his 53rd birthday, due to his many years of successful engagement. An office he held for ten years. In 1985, Dr. Kurt Waldheim in the Austrian presidential elections as the winner. His term ended on 8 July 1992.
