For centuries, the circus has taken young and old into a world of acrobatics and magic, making everyday worries come to be forgotten. This is the magic of this year's issue of the special stamp series Europe on the subject of circus. The founder of the circus world is the Briton Philip Astley, who founded in 1768 near London, a school of art riding. The performances were gradually supplemented by performances by acrobats and the circus in the modern sense was born. About 100 years later, in 1873, Ernst Jakob Renz founded the first regularly occurring circus in Germany. Today, the big circuses »Krone«, »Roncalli« or »Sarrasani« enthuse us.
