Following the brilliant victory of Conchita Wurst in 2014, Austria is now the venue for this year's Eurovision Song Contest. On the occasion of this major event, Austrian Post is issuing a special stamp showing the logo of this year's singing competition. Since 1956, the music competition has been held annually by the EBU, the European Broadcasting Union. 2015 is a very special one: The Song Contest takes place for the 60th time this year - all the better that this anniversary is celebrated in Austria. Once before, in 1967, the "Grand Prix de la Chanson", as it was then called, was held in Austria. Sandy Shaw, the Barefoot singer from Great Britain, won the competition with her song "Puppet on a String". The year before, the recently deceased Udo Jürgens delighted the audience on his third appearance and was able to win the victory for Austria for the first time with "Merci, Chérie" and thus bring the song contest to his home country. For him, that meant an international breakthrough and the beginning of an unprecedented career. Other countries, however, were far more successful at the Song Contest than Austria. Ireland is the undisputed winner in seven wins, followed by France, Luxembourg, Sweden and the United Kingdom with five each. Many well-known and previously unknown artists performed at the Song Contest, such as ABBA, Celine Dion, Cliff Richard, Nicole or Vicky Leandros. - The subject of the special stamp shows the dynamic logo for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest titled "The Sphere". The slogan "Building Bridges" symbolizes connections and encounters with the sphere and the wave as well as the unity that is generated by diversity.
