The "Association Européenne des Graveurs et des Flexographes" (AEGRAFLEX) is the European professional association of engravers, stamp makers and flexographers and was founded on June 11, 1966, first as a foundation under the name "Association des Graveurs Européens" only for the engravers. On the occasion of the 2nd International Congress of this organization, which took place in Vienna in 1972, the title was extended by including the flexographs and entered in the above-mentioned form in the Dutch register of associations. The headquarters and the office of the organization are located in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1987, AEGRAFLEX consisted of 16 national member associations, comprising 325 single member companies from 25 states. In 1987, this congress took place for the second time in Austria (Vienna), with the 100th anniversary of the Vienna Grave Cooperative in 1986 being a decisive reason for the choice of the congress location. An important connection to the postal service results for this professional group from the fact that the worldwide acknowledged artistic level of the Austrian stamps is in close connection with the Austrian engraving industry, since a stamp is finally engraved by the engraver. The stamp motif shows an engraver at work after an old engraving.
