Since 1976, the International Conference of Oriental Carpets, a gathering of carpet scientists, connoisseurs and collectors, takes place every two to three years. Vienna hosted this conference in September 1986. First, it visited Budapest, where three exhibitions were held. The holdings of the Hungarian Museum of Applied Arts, with 340 pieces alone on Turkish carpets in this sector, the largest collection outside Istanbul, were shown in Budapest and in the castle museum Nagytetenyi. The Hungarian postal administration also issued a special postage stamp for this occasion. In Vienna, the actual conference was held with 70 lectures on twelve topics. The official host of the conference was the "Austrian Society for the Promotion of Textile Art Research", a nonprofit association founded by carpet lovers. The brand motif shows a part of the "Silk Viennese Hunting Carpet" from the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna. The rug was formerly in imperial possession and was probably made in the first half of the 16th century in Keschan.
