Vienna has a long tradition in suicide prevention and crisis intervention. In 1927, for example, the Vienna Police Department's Corps has developed appropriate measures for people who attempt suicide. In May 1928, the philanthropist Wilhelm Börner, who was also head of the "Ethical Community", founded a care center for the weary of life. It existed until 1938. It was only ten years later that Erwin Ringel founded a suicide prevention center, the first in post-war Europe. Soon, the approach used there in the treatment of suicidal people was internationally known and went as a "Viennese way of suicide prevention" in the literature. It was also Ringel who initiated the foundation of the International Association for Suicide Prevention and Crisis Intervention (IASP) in 1960, at the International Cultural Center in Vienna. She celebrated her 25th anniversary in 1985. Its goal is to enable the constant connection of all individuals and partnerships involved in practical suicide prevention and suicide research. The brand image shows the portal of the founding place of this organization and its emblem.
