The International Association of National Automobile Engineers Associations "FISITA" (Fédération Internationale de Sociétés d`Ingénieur des Techniques de Automobile) was founded in 1948 in Paris. More than 80,000 automotive engineers from 22 countries around the world, including Austria, are represented at FISITA. The motto of FISITA is "progress through common ground". The most important means of achieving this goal is the World Congress of Automotive Engineers, which is held every two years. From the 6th to the 11th of May the XX. World Congress of this kind in Vienna. This also acknowledged Austria's performance in the automotive development sector. Names like Ferdinand Porsche or Hans Ledwinka are inseparable from the history of the automobile. Ferdinand Porsche is regarded as one of the most versatile and creative engineering personalities of the automobile industry and developed among other things the VW Beetle, the most built motor vehicle of the world and 1948 the world-famous Porsche sports car. Appreciated by experts in the industry, Hans Ledwinka is an ingenious designer who designed milestones in automotive development. Also Austrian companies, such as Steyr-Daimler Puch or Gräf & Stift were already involved in technical progress in the early days of the automobile.
