It recalls the size and severity of the fighting in the spring of 1945 and announces the heroic sacrifices that demanded the storming of the Seelower Heights. Built on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the USSR and inaugurated on December 28, 1972, the memorial is a reminder and an obligation to honor the legacy of the Soviet heroes and to deepen their friendship with the Soviet Union. On the edge of Seelower Heights stands the monument created by the Soviet sculptor Professor Lew Kerbel. On a stone pedestal, supported by a destroyed fascist tank, rises the bronze statue of the powerful, resolute and victorious Soviet soldier. On the forecourt weapons are displayed, the main battle tank T34, a howitzer, an anti-tank gun and feared by the fascists "Katyusha", a grenade launcher, which was used in the night attack on April 16, 1945. In front of the monument is the honorary cemetery. Around 10,000 unknown and well-known heroes found their final resting place here. The plaque on the base of the monument bears the inscription: You are eternally unforgotten, Soviet soldiers! Chiselled the stones take the names. Imprinted on the memory live the deeds. You gave your life, to free us from fascism and war what was burning in you, shall be a torch in us. The fulfillment of this legacy also serves as an imprinted message to the youth, to the young communists of 2017, to the 100th anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution.
