In 1959, the "European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations" was founded, which is called CEPT after its French name. Already in the following year it was decided to set an international sign in the form of the European stamp. For 1990 one selected the representation of post buildings as common motive. Austria opted for the post office of the community Reichenau, which lies in the heartland of the Carinthian "National Park Nockberge". Situated in a typically Austrian forest and mountain landscape, landscape-friendly and yet modern, it represents a piece of postal everyday life in Austria.
