Paula von Preradovic, the author of the text of the Austrian national anthem, was born on October 12, 1887. In 1889, her family moved to Pola in Croatia, where from 1905 Preradovic participated in the lively literary life. In 1916 she married the diplomat Ernst Molden. During the Second World War, the family went through a particularly hard time. Paula von Preradovic recorded the last days of the war and the collapse of the Hitler regime in diary entries. Her literary oeuvre includes numerous poems, prose poems and small scenic works. It can be characterized as a "poetess between peoples", for whom poetry always meant "an obligation to communicate learned knowledge". Paula von Preradovic died on May 25, 1951.
