Buildings of the German Post With the illustrations of buildings of the German post office the Ministry for post and telecommunication of the German Democratic Republic issues four multicolored special postage stamps. Special postmark from 9 February to 8 April 1982 Buildings of the German post office 35 Pfennig value: Main post office Erfurt The main post office Erfurt was built in the years 1882 to 1885 in the center of the city Erfurt as imperial upper post direction with post office and telegraph office. The architect Klamodt designed the facade of the three-storey main building with the corner tower in the base area in sandstone and on the two upper floors with clinker brickwork and terracotta in geometric patterns. The eaves of the main building was designed as Kreuzblumenbalustrade. The sculptural façade design accentuates the main entrance with its risalit and bay windows in architectural harmony with the corner tower and side entrance. The extension was designed in the style of Dutch Renaissance with gable row and bay window. At present, the headquarters and the annex house the main post office services with the separate mail and parcel counter halls and the Telecommunications Office. Thus, the postal supply for the city of Erfurt and the district and the telephone coverage for 15,000 participants is secured.
