Julius Raab was an important and above all a typical Austrian. He was born on November 29, 1891 in St. Pölten. After graduating in 1911, he moved to Vienna, became a student at the technical college specializing in building construction and joined the Catholic-Catholic Association Norica. During the First World War he served as an officer. After the war he continued his studies, and in 1922 became a graduated engineer. He entered his father's company and became politically active within the Christian-Social Party. Shortly before the seizure of power by the National Socialists, he was made by Schuschnigg Minister of Commerce. When Austria regained after 1945, Julius Raab was one of the men of the first hour. He founded the Austrian Business Association and became a key figure of the Austrian People's Party. In 1953 he became Chancellor and was significantly responsible for the conclusion of the State Treaty in 1955. Voices of his time described him as the master builder of a free Austria and chancellor of the State Treaty. Julius Raab was one of those great politicians who helped shape the birth of the Second Republic. He died on January 8, 1964.
