In 1975, the Wiener Symphoniker celebrated their 75th anniversary. Already from its founding date, the year 1900, the symphonists are closely connected with the twentieth century, and so the care of the modern masters is one of the essential tasks that this orchestra has set itself. However, if one measures his work only in terms of the number of pieces played, the focus is clearly on the care of traditional music. In this area, the Symphoniker, as a concert-supporting orchestra of the capital city of Vienna, have the role of a mediator between the masters of symphonic music and the music-loving audience. Before the founding of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra there was no professional concert orchestra in Vienna, which could offer high-quality performances. This demand of the audience was the starting point for the founding of the Wiener Musikverein in 1900, which undertook the task of forming such an orchestra. In the same year, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra was founded as a "Concert Association Orchestra". The name "Wiener Symphoniker" was not introduced until 1933.
