40th Anniversary of the Liberation of Fascism On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the liberation of fascism, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued four multi-colored special postage stamps and one block. Special cancellation from 7 May to 6 July 1985 40th anniversary of the victory over Hitler's fascism and the liberation of the German people On May 8, 1945, representatives of the High Command of the Hitler Defense in Berlin-Karlshorst signed the unconditional surrender. The people of the GDR pay tribute to this day together with all those who stand for peace, international understanding, social progress and humanity, as the day of the victory of the Soviet Union and the other forces of the anti-Hitler coalition over Hitler's fascism and the liberation of the German people from Nazi rule. "The liberation act of the Soviet Union," it says in the appeal of the Central Committee of the SED, the State Council, the Council of Ministers and the National Council of the National Front of the GDR, "opened our people the chance of an anti-fascist, democratic, and socialist new beginning." The issue of special postage stamps documents that the opportunity for a new start has been used on the territory of the German Democratic Republic. Drawing lessons from the struggle of the German workers' movement, the KPD and SPD united in April 1946 to form the SED. The Marxist-Leninist party, acting in alliance with all other anti-fascist-democratic forces, provided the pledge for all successfully carried out social upheavals. On the basis of the Potsdam Agreement, fascism and militarism were eradicated with their imperialist roots. In one part of Germany, the anti-fascist oath of May 1945 was fulfilled, so that German soil should never again go out of war. May 8, 1945, therefore, also wants to be understood as a reminder to exhaust all possibilities for securing peace in the present. In this sense, the working people of the GDR, above all with their work, strengthen their socialist republic, which is a state of antifascism and peace. With the sculpture of the Soviet soldier on the Treptow memorial - which forms the motive of value to 1, - Mark - is pointed to the historical starting point of all Erfoge in industry, agriculture, science and technology. Thanks to the Treptow Memorial, which was inaugurated on May 8, 1949, thanks go to the fallen Soviet soldiers. It commends the greatness of the Soviet Liberation Army's international liberation mission, which has given its life to the 5,000 Soviet heroes who have been buried in the park. The Treptow Memorial is also a symbol of the struggle of the Soviet Union, which, together with the peoples of the world, resolutely opposes the arsonists of a new war.
