The composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy is considered by many to be one of the most important artistic personalities of the 19th century. He was born on 3 February 1809 in Hamburg and grew up in Berlin. At an early age, he displayed his outstanding musical talent, which was promoted by well-known teachers. Already at the age of 26, he was appointed Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus.
