Through his Low German written works and his fate, Fritz Reuter (1810-1874) has memorized the cultural memory. His works are translated into many European languages and even into Japanese and have been reissued many times. With his novel of the century "Ut mine Stromtid" or the epic poem "Kein Hüsung" he belongs to the great writers of the 19th century and one of the most important humorists of German literature. The rural population, ignored at the time, and the "Underdogs" received a vote through him. Because of his commitment to freedom, justice and German unity, Reuter was persecuted and detained. However, he has retained his ideals and is therefore a great figure in German democratic history.
