Franz Grillparzer was born on January 15, 1791 in Vienna, at today's Bauernmarkt 10. Grillparzer's first poem is from the year 1804 handed down. His first major dramatic work "Blanka of Castile" he submitted in 1810 at the Hofburgtheater, where it was rejected. As a special stroke of luck must be considered his meeting with the Burgtheater secretary Josef Schreyvogel. Thanks to his support, Grillparzer's family drama "The Ancestress" premiered on January 31, 1817 at the Theater an der Wien. In the years that followed, Grillparzer created works such as "King Ottokar's Luck and End", "The Dream, a Life" or the dramas "A Brother Quarrel in Habsburg", "The Jewess of Toledo" and "Libussa". Awarded numerous honors for his work, Franz Grillparzer died on January 21, 1872.
