Heinrich Zille - born on January 10, 1858 in Radeburg near Dresden - influenced the image of the city of Berlin in public in the first third of the 20th century with his drawings. His works document the miserable living conditions of many Berliners in the urban areas characterized by industrialization and population growth. During the Weimar Republic, Zille became a Berlin "authority" and his works became a trademark for what he called "Milljöh" in Berlin. With the income from his books, he supported social initiatives. Heinrich Zille died on August 9, 1929. Under great sympathy of the Berlin population, he received an honorary funeral.
