Norbert Hanrieder was born on 2 July 1842. His musical talent and sonorous voice led him at the age of ten years as a choir boy in the Cistercian monastery Wilhering. After high school he entered the Linz seminary, was ordained a priest in 1866 and sent to Losenstein as chaplain. Always connected to poetry, he initially used the high-level language in his works, only to write in dialect. His first text collection "Pictures from the Folk Life of the Mühlviertel" appeared in 1895. His major work "The Upper Austrian Peasant War," whose completion Hanrieder employed nearly twenty years of his life, was published in the series "Aus da Hoamat" in 1907.
