The writer, cabaret artist and painter Joachim Ringelnatz, born on August 7, 1883 in Wurzen near Leipzig, is best known for his poems about the sailor Kuttel Daddeldu. It was not until 1920, he could make a living by selling his books and pictures as well as cabaret appearances. Previously, he had worked in more than 30 professions, including as a sailor, which provided him with much material for his sailor poems. Despite his high productivity, he led no financially carefree life and died impoverished on November 17, 1934 in Berlin. Meanwhile, his novels, short stories, children's books, grotesques, but above all his humorous poems have reached millions.
