Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling was born on 9 May 1904 in Hanover, the son of a chemical manufacturer. From 1922 he studied music in Munich and Cologne - interrupted by several study visits in Italy. From 1927 to 1929 he was a student of the composer Heinrich Kaminski, who also taught Carl Orff. From 1938 Schwarz-Schilling taught at the Berlin Conservatory. His chamber, organ and choral music as well as his solo songs show a closeness to sacred music and unfold a musical language that follows the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach. One of his main works is the orchestral work »Die Botschaft« (1979-1982). Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling died on December 9, 1985 in Berlin.
