Astrid Lindgren is today considered one of the most famous children's book authors in the world. She was born on November 14, 1907 near Vimmerby in the Swedish Småland. Already her first book, the adventures of the red-haired girl Pippi Longstocking published in 1945, gained world fame. Numerous other bestsellers followed: »Michel from Lönneberga«, »We children from Bullerbü«, »Ronja robber's daughter«, »Karlsson from the roof«, »Kalle Blomquist«, »Lotta and other children from the noisemaker's street«, »The Brothers Löwenherz« , "Mio, my Mio", "Madita" and many more. Astrid Lindgren's books were translated into 90 languages ​​and reached a worldwide circulation of 145 million copies. In Germany alone, almost one hundred schools have the name of the well-known Swede, who has been actively involved in human rights for all her life, especially child rights and animal welfare. For her efforts for peace and non-violence, she was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 1978, and in 1994 she was honored with the Alternative Nobel Prize.
