Richard Count Coudenhove-Kalergi was born in Tokyo in 1894, the son of an Austro-Hungarian diplomat and a Japanese woman. As a youth prepared for service in the Habsburg monarchy, the supranational "Europe in a small", he lost after the First World War, his fatherland and thus also the basis of the idea of the multinational state. With his idea of "Paneuropa" he wanted to follow this tradition. Already in 1923 he founded the Paneuropa Union, carrier of the idea of unification in Europe until today. The eminent pioneer of a united Europe died on July 27, 1972.
